(BLOOMINGTON) — The Illinois High School Association has released host and assignment details for the upcoming four-class state volleyball tournament series.
Regional play starts on Monday, Oct. 27. Sectional tournaments begin on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with Super Sectionals slated for the following Monday, Nov. 10. The state tournament will be held at CEFCU Arena on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal on Nov. 14-15.
Coaches will first seed the teams in their Sub-Sectionals, with those seeds announced by the IHSA on Oct. 9. The pairings will drop the following day, Oct. 10.
Teams are first assigned to Sub-Sectionals in advance, then after the seeding is complete teams are then subdivided and paired up into two correlated Regional tournaments.
In class 1A, Casey-Westfield will get to host one of the two regionals in Sub-Sectional A leading to the Argenta-Oreana Sectional, with Windsor being the other host. Lawrenceville is also in that 16-team field. The Sectional winner would advance to the Heyworth Super Sectional.
In Class 2A, Mt. Carmel, Newton, Olney, and Robinson have been assigned to Sub-Sectional A of the Benton Sectional. Mt. Carmel will host one of the Regional tournaments, along with Hamilton County. The Sectional winner would advance to the Shelbyville Super Sectional.
Marshall and Paris are also in the bracket which leads to Shelbyville, but have been assigned instead to Sub-Sectional B of the Clinton Sectional. Paris will host one of the Regional tournaments, along with St. Joe-Ogden. In essence, that could lead to an all-LIC Super Sectional.
