Paris has grabbed the early lead in the LIC girls basketball race thanks to a 66-32 conference win over Marshall on Monday night in Paris.

The Tigers took control of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring Marshall 26-7 to grab a commanding 43-17 lead by halftime. Paris moved to 2-0 in the LIC (and 8-1 overall) with the win, while Marshall is now 0-2 in league play and 2-3 overall.

Macy Bicknell led Paris with a game-high total of 23 points. Pailynne Camp added 11 for the winners. The Marshall attack was led by Marlee Heighton, who finished with 11 points.

Robinson evened its’ LIC record at 1-1 by defeating Casey-Westfield, 62-34, on Monday night in Casey. With the win the Maroons, who faced a strenuous early-season schedule, improved to 2-5 on the season. Casey-Westfield, after falling in its’ LIC debut, is now 6-3 on the season.

Newton lost at Edwards County, 62-51, in non-conference basketball on Monday night. The host Lady Lions stormed from behind in the second half behind a 32-point performance by Grace Bishop. Newton led at halftime, 30-26, but Edwards County (5-3 on the season) outscored the Eagles 24-12 in the third frame and took it from there.

Four players finished in double figures to highlight a well-balanced Newton (4-3) attack. Alani Bergbower was team-high with 13 points, followed closely by Grace Schumacher (12 points), Allie Hermann (11), and Izzy Meinhart (10).

The Mt. Carmel vs. Lawrenceville game originally scheduled for Monday has been rescheduled as part of a boy-girl doubleheader on Tuesday in Mt. Carmel. Following the Lady Aces game, the Mt. Carmel boys will host Evansville Day.
