The IHSA state golf series kicks off Tuesday with girls Regional tournaments across the state. The boys then tee it up in Regional play on Wednesday in this two-class sport.
Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson, which played host to the LIC championship tournament last week, will host both boys and girls Class 1A Regionals this week.
The top three regional teams and top 10 individuals not a part of advancing teams qualify for Sectional play, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 5 (both boys and girls).
Heading into the post-season, two LIC boys teams show up highly in the iWannamaker state ratings system. Mt. Carmel is rated third and Casey-Westfield 12th in Class 1A. Golden Aces leader Zane Wilcox, the medalist at last week’s LIC tournament. is rated fifth in the state field, according to iWannamaker. Teammate Hatcher Kanipe is listed in 10th.
On the girls side, five-time defending state champion Mt. Carmel carries a No. 9 rating into the tournament series. Individually, LIC medalist Leah Correll of Robinson is rated third best in the state in Class 1A.
