(SAVOY) — The Casey-Westfield boys golf team has qualified for the 2026 IHSA Class 1A state tournament. The Warriors finished third at the Sectional tournament hosted by Monticello on Tuesday.
Teutopolis won the Sectional title with a team round of 299, 10 shots better than Williamsville. Casey-Westfield claimed the third and final qualifying spot by a razor-thin margin. The Warriors carded a 321, one shot better than fourth-place Pana, which missed out on State with a 322. In fifth came Mt. Carmel, which had just beaten Casey-Westfield for the Little Illini Conference title on Sept. 23. The Golden Aces were one more shot back with a 323. Thus, three teams were separated by two shots in the final standings.
Senior Kian Garver led the way for the Warriors with a 5-over-par round of 77 on the 6,407-yard University of Illinois Orange Course in Savoy. Blake Burkybile and Tyler Volk both came in with rounds of 81, followed by Ryan Hosfield (82), Skyler Hoble (85), and Owen Ramsey (97).
A freshman took medalist honors. Colin Thoroman of Virden (North Mac) led the field with a 2-under 70.
The LIC will be represented at State by two individual golfers in addition to the Casey-Westfield team. Mt. Carmel freshman Colton McGee fired a 75, and Newton qualified junior Jack James, who carded a 77.
Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington will host the two-day, 36-hole state championship tournament this Friday and Saturday. There will be 12 teams (three qualifiers from each of four Sectionals played around the state) vying for top honors. After the first day of competition at the state finals, the field will be reduced to the top eight teams (and ties) and the top 40 individuals (and ties) not on the top eight teams.
