There are three weeks remaining in the regular season, but this is the busiest of the three as far as Little Illini Conference volleyball teams are concerned. There are six league game on tap, three each on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 9.
One of the biggest matchups of the season to date is on Tuesday, when the top two teams in the standings clash. Mt. Carmel (4-1 in league play, 10-10 overall) plays at Newton (3-0, 14-10). It is a must-win for the visitors, who would be effectively eliminated from the race with a second league loss.
The only other team with just one loss in conference play, Marshall (3-1, 18-6) is on the road tonight in non-conference play at Red Hill (2-16). The Lions, who lost to Mt. Carmel on Sept. 11, host Newton on Thursday.
Also on the docket for Tuesday is: Lawrenceville (1-4, 11-13) at Robinson (0-4, 11-9), and Paris (1-2, 15-8) at Olney (1-2, 3-14).
