MT. CARMEL — Mt. Carmel continues to build on its’ girls golf dynasty. How long will it last?
One year ago, coach Karin Kelsey’s Lady Aces won their fourth straight IHSA Class 1A state title by an eye-popping 48 shots, over two 18-hole rounds played at Red Tail Run in Decatur. Five of the six starters from that team return this fall, including senior Zeme Moore, the individual state champion who won with an even-par 144. In fact, all six starters finished in the top 30 at state.
So, clearly Mt. Carmel is being tabbed as the team to beat again in 2025. If the Lady Aces manage to pull off a 5-peat, they will match Regina Dominican of Wilmette, which won five straight single-class titles between 1986-90. The all-time IHSA record belongs to the Monmouth boys teams of 1985-90, winners of six straight crowns.
In the first outing of the 2025 season on Thursday, the Lady Aces recorded a no-doubt win in their own seven-team Invitational at West Berwick Golf Club. Their team total of 288 was 117 strokes better than second-place Benton’s 405. Little Illini rivals Robinson (441) and Olney (455) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
As for Moore, she picked right up where she left off last fall, carding a 65 for medalist honors (including a hole-in-one on the 10th hole), to lead a Mt. Carmel team which claimed the top six individual spots.
